What is Word-Too-Long 1003 views

Q. What does "Word-Too-Long" mean?

We need to make sure that the words you write on your personal sites and in the forums are no longer than 40 characters, so that the page layouts and designs are not broken. There are exceptions to this rule:

  • If you enter a long url into image tags (e.g. [IMG]http://longword..[/IMG]), that's fine - our software will understand that it's not a long word for display, and will let it through.

  • If you enter a url e.g. [URL=http://longword...]some text[/URL] then if the displayed part of the url is too long, our software *may* need to tidy things up a bit (but it should still result in the page reading well).

If you are reading this page, then it's probably because something else has happened to make the "Word-Too-Long" warning and you need to change something around....here are common reasons together with solutions:

  • You have entered a long url but not enclosed it in [URL=...] tags
  • You have used characters like "-" to separate lines - use the [HR] tag instead
  • You have used some other character sequence which is over 40 letters long - put a space in there somewhere!
